ANSA Biotech will be presenting remotely. GDEC and SSPB GSA will provide catering.
2025 SEED
June 23-26, 2025
SEED is the leading technical event for synthetic biology — covering the field from its foundations to its commercial applications. Gain insight into next-generation development strategies from leaders in research and industry.
ELM Workshop
October 22-24, 2025
Hosted at the BioScience Research Collaborative, The Engineered Living Materials Workshop brings together academic, industry, and agency collaborators to discuss the promise and challenges of engineered living materials (ELMs). ELMs are expected to provide improved sustainability in material development, manufacturing, deployment, and use. The workshop will be a dialogic event at which all participants are encouraged to weigh in on concepts and challenges in the field.

The Spirit of Asilomar
February 23-26, 2025
Rice Synthetic Biology Institute (RSBI) is deeply invested in building next generation leaders in synthetic biology. Our efforts include building relationships and supporting institutions in Southern US. RSBI supported 10 scholars from Rice University and other institutions across Southern US, to attend The Spirit of Asilomar and the Future of Biotechnology summit in 2025 This gave the young scholars an opportunity to contribute to meaningful discussions shaping the future of synthetic biology. This event will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original 1975 Asilomar Conference, a landmark moment that shaped global standards for ethics and safety in biotechnology. The summit will address critical issues such as artificial intelligence, biosecurity, and advancements in synthetic biology.
SAST
July 31, 2024
Each year, high school students from the Science Academy of South Texas take part in the summer academy organized by the Rice Synthetic Biology Institute. This program offers students the opportunity to engage in collaborative research. This year, the Biomaterials Lab introduced students to the fields of biomaterials, 3D printing, and bioprinting. The activities featured a series of lectures, hands-on exercises, and an engineering project.
NA-ISMET 2024
April 3-5, 2024
ISMET aims to link researchers from various areas of science and engineering towards studying the complex interactions of microorganisms and electrodes, while finding novel ways to use them for sustainability applications.
2023 Rice Synbio Workshop
August 25-26, 2023
The current global pandemic and the risk of future outbreak events has provided a strong motivation to rethink how we monitor and respond to emergent threats. A potential solution is to create living systems that detect, recognize, actuate, and mitigate emergent biological threats. To create strong stakeholder engagement and define a vision for living sensor and actuator systems, a survey has been created to broadly engage the community. The survey results will be used at an in-person workshop to develop a roadmap for living sensor and actuator research.
